An action-packed day at the hosting club of Lightweight Motorcycle Club in Byford. Sunday the 23rd of August saw the first round of the WAMX Make Smoking History State Senior Motocross Championship Series. After months of waiting and bike prep, it was time to rip up the dirt. Plenty of riders filled the grid and were anticipating the gate drop for their first of many motos of the day. The canteen was running hot and the spectators lined up, waiting to view their favourite riders battle it out for a podium win.


The NR Metal Recycling MX1 class was full of Western Australia’s most premium riders. Regan Duffy held his first-place position throughout all of moto one while Josh Adams had some struggles and finished in fourth position while John Darroch claimed second with Dean Porter in third. The sprint for this class had Regan in first and some changes between riders, Josh, Dean and John as well. The last race of the day Saw Regan Duffy finish first place with Corben Weinert in second and Charlie Creech in third.

The IEES MX2 class had over twenty exceptional riders on the day, all ready to go and eyeing off a podium position. Regan Duffy took out moto one and a win for his dual class. Closely in second was Josh Adams, followed by Daniel Pajewski in third and Cody Chittick in fourth. The sprint on the day had Regan in first again with Josh hot on his end with only a couple of seconds to spare. Conan Forrester managed to grab third over Daniel who finished fourth. The last moto saw Regan take out first place with Daniel this time coming in second over Josh who finished third and Conan who got fourth.

Plenty of riders were at the starting gates for the Brutum Logistics ATV Class on the Sunday. Chris Bosnakis led the way throughout moto one with Luke Gaisford following behind in second and Jae Dowsett in third. Michael Murphy and Josh McQuade had a little battle of their own with Josh finishing in fourth over Michael in fifth. The sprint for this class had Chris keep his lead position while Waldo Hussie, Josh McQuade and Flynn Burton fought for sixth, seventh and eighth positions respectively. The last race of round one saw Chris finish first with Luke in second and Jae in third, while Ashleigh Curedale managed to grab two positions over Jayde Merrylees in the end.

The Cully’s Women’s Class had great competition between all riders on the day. From the first moto it was a fight between riders Hannah Stewart and Hannah Bagnall as they swapped between second and third while Teleisha Outram and Megan Bagnall were pushing hard for sixth and fifth positions. The sprint race had Kara Cats lead all the way through in first place while Hannah Bagnall finished second with Hannah Stewart in third. The last race for the day for the women had a few riders drop out but that didn’t stop Kara from keeping her first-place position until the very end with Hannah Bagnall in second and sister Megan Bagnall in third.

The Cully’s Veterans class was exciting and energetic on the day as most of the older riders were eager to get back on their bikes and showcase their mx skills. Moto one had Chris Errey hold first-place with Ben Shingler in second and Stuart McFerran in third. The sprint for this class had Chris in first again with Ben in second Stuart in third and Trevor Unstead following in fourth. The last race of the day saw Aaron Chircop push forward into second place over Stuart who managed to grab third place over Ben.

The Amateur Cup was buzzing on the day with nearly a full grid of riders on the day. Danny Mayes kept up first place with Fletcher Stubbs in second followed by Campbell Lee who fought hard for his third place. The second race for this class had Jay White take first place with Ricky Ladiszlai in second and Fletcher Stubbs in third. The final race for the Amateur Cup class saw Jay keep his first-place position until the very end while it was a battle between Fletcher, Campbell, Danny Mayes, Jacob Jones and Ricky for positions of second to sixth.

The first race of its kind for WAMX and it was spectacular to see on the day. Daniel Pajewski kept his pace up and finished first for the first race on the day, while Codey Rowe came in second with Michael Zawada in third. The second race for the 2-Stroke Cup had Daniel in first again with Codey in second and Michael in third. There was a bit of a battle in the beginning between Grant Buchan and Adam Murray however Grant managed to secure fifth over Adam who finished sixth. The last race for the Cup had Daniel take our first place with Codey in second and Michael in third with Dylan Fernihough in fourth, Adam in fifth, Declan O’Leary in sixth and Grant in seventh.

A long-anticipated day for sure by those Senior riders at Lightweight Motorcycle Club.
