Hendley Park Byford hosted Round 5 of the Smarter Than Smoking WAMX State Championships, featuring the PerthMX.com 2 Stroke Cup, and Quads and Clubman Open riders. Rain and storms held off all day with sunny skies greeting riders for the opening moto of the 2 Stroke Cup.

Moto 1 gate drop saw Charlie Creech on board his trusty Kawasaki and KTM mounted Kyle Pacey going head to head for the holeshot. It wasn’t long before Jayden Rykers made his way through the pack to make the pass to take the lead and win from Creech, Josh Adams, Kyle Pacey, Erhard Pajewski and Brody Fewster.

Moto 2 Charlie Creech and Josh Adams would battle for the first corner before Adams got the lead with Jayden Rykers, Mitch Taylor and Brody Fewster in toe. Rykers made the pass with one lap to go to take the honours with Josh Adams second, Mitch Taylor third, followed by Creech and Brody Fewster in fifth place.

Moto 3 had Josh Adams out of the gates into the first turn to lead the field however Jayden Rykers was in red hot form and made the pass in the opening lap and would go on to take a clean sweep of the day. Josh Adams was kept busy in second position where he would finish, with the hard charging Kyle Pacey keeping the pressure on to secure third in the moto, Charlie Creech came home in fourth with Brody Fewster holding firm to finish in fifth position. Rykers results had him on the top step of the podium with Josh Adams second and Charlie Creech in third place.

Jayden Rykers: “I was really happy with my racing today, the bike was absolutely on song and I have to say a big thanks to D and N Waste for the KTM 2 Stroke today, the bike did not miss a beat. I hope to carry this season’s form into the second round at Bunbury, and finish off this season in the number 1 position in the PerthMX.com 2 Stroke Cup”.

Charlie Creech was delighted to podium on the KX 250. “I came here last Sunday and came to terms with the track; today the conditions were pretty similar. I am stoked to have pulled a 3rd today, it was awesome to get the old KX on the box, a massive thanks to Corey and Joneen from Munster Motor Trimmers. I’m looking forward to the Bunbury round and let’s see what I can get the KX to do there”!

This event also saw a variety of Quad classes in the WAMX State Championships with the Pro Quad class again dominated by Chris Bosnakis, yet the challenges were fast and furious behind the number 2 quad. Luke Ovens, Mat Robbins, Shaun Woodhead and Luke Capogreco Shaun Barry and Michael Harcourt were in top form.

Jonathon Mosby was on fire in the Clubman Quads taking all three motos whilst the action was played out behind with some terrific racing from Trevor Odgers, Jemma Merrylees, Darrell Stevens, Bryce Crabtree and Campbell Taylor-Iles. Mosby’s results now have him sitting in third in the championships behind Jeff Hogan who is 85 points behind series leader Jemma Merrylees.

Clubman Lites raced as a support class with Scott Jackman (1-2-1) taking the round win from Daniel Reed (2-1-2) and Daniel Jordan (3-3-3), whilst Casey Crisp finished in fourth ahead of Teleisha Outram.

The Junior Quad Championship featured some of the young upcoming riders into the sport with some familiar faces and some newcomers joining the ranks. Jae Dowsett took the round win (1-1-1) with Matthew Lee second (3-3-2) and Justin Noy third. Josh McQuad was on fire out of the gates taking a couple of great holeshots with Jack Gaske battling with Caelen Campione, Jess White, Declan lough, Zac O’Donnell and Mea Dowsett.

Michael Harcourt took the round win in the Veteran Quads taking all three motos whilst the battle was played out for second between Darryl Maragoni and Craig Pearse, whilst Paul Zuchetti and Michael Trayner battled further in the field.

Clubman Open Class belonged to Brodie Blakemore who took all three races yet was kept busy with Dylan Furnihough in second and Brodie Harnett who picked up third for the day. There were some top battles from Sam De Vries, Tim Dunstan and Mark Coxan. Dylan Furnihough’s results now see him as the series leader ahead of Brody Grothues and Bodie Harnett.
